Las Tunas.- Each piece of land holds a piece
of history. No space escapes from the inevitable traces of
civilization as a legacy for the present and future
generations.
Many landscapes or buildings are in the collective memory of
the people and that is the case of the old Hotel Plaza,
located downtown Las Tunas city, which is still remembered
as a majestic building.
Undoubtedly, there are sites that leave their mark forever
and others are transformed, embellished and adapted to the
new times, as the building occupied at present by the
Provincial Station Radio Victoria, at 157, on Colon Street.
Right in this place, back in the 50s last century, there was
a hardware store which sold all kinds of spare parts, tools
and supplies for home, which was called La Bomba. Its owner
Max Berguer was called the Polish man and owned other
important business here.
After the triumph of the Cuban Revolution the place had
dissimilar uses. It worked as a workshop to repair TV sets,
but it was not until the 26 of July, 1978 that it assumed
another role to give historical continuity to journalism in
this province, since the provincial newspaper periodico 26
came to make use of the building. The director was Jose
Infante and the deputy director Nelson Marrero.
On
June 17, 1985 the newspaper moved to another building. So
the place was empty for some time and on January 24, 2003 an
old dream came true, since the old Provincial Station Radio
Victoria took possession of the building.
In the new place the radio station counts on digital
technology after more than 80 years of experience in the art
of guiding, educating and promoting the aesthetic enjoyment
of a loyal and large audience.
The former hardware store La Bomba became the radio station
Radio Victoria, guaranteeing a sound to the listeners 24
hours a day and its signal can be heard beyond the Cuban
borders by some dxers from Finland, Sweden and Norway.
