Las Tunas. - The beekeepers of Las Tunas province have favorable conditions to obtain 280 tons of honey in the current 2009, production that would be the highest in the last 20 years in the territory, located 690 kilometers to the east of Havana. 

The good weather conditions and the abundant flowering of plants are

some of the factors that propitiate the increment of that product, which has high nutritious and pharmacological value. 

Directive of the Managerial Basic Unit of the Beekeeping in Las Tunas told Radio Victoria that starting from this month the workers improve the handling of the beehives to take advantage of the flowering of species that are very rich in nectar.

The beekeepers of the province asserted they can conclude the year with the fulfillment of their plans of wax and propolis, which they have over fulfilled in more than the 570 and 120 percent, in that order. 

The honey bee has a great demand in the international market, reason why constitutes a valuable exportable product, besides helping to diminish imports, because many of its components are used as raw matterial in the elaboration of foods and medicines.
