Over 200 Forest Farms in Las Tunas
October 15,
2009, 10:23 amLas Tunas, (Main Writing Tiempo21).- Some 222 forest farms in eastern province Las Tunas help to increase the forests in the territory, 690 kilometres to Havana.
A wire from the Cuban News Agency highlights that engineer Pablo Avila Gonzalez, director of the Forest State Service in Las Tunas, declared that these farms have a big importance in the territory, because only 14.1 of its surface is covered by the trees.
On the other hand, Victor Rodriguez Carballosa, president of the People’s Power highlights the significance of economic effort to carry out the project.
Rodriguez Carballosa also made emphasis on the necessity of cleaning the fields that are infested by the overgrowth and for such zeal he advised to use machetes, in stead of being waiting for chemical herbicides.
In Cuba the movement of forest farms began in 1995 by Villa Clara province, initiative that at the moment counts with more than one thousand of those productive entities distributed in the whole nation.
