Las Tunas.-
The 389 workers of the Company of Agricultural Workhops,

Dismount and Construction 13 de Marzo, located in this city, prioritize the production and recovery of equipments and implements to clear and cultivate State lands that were given in usufruct to new smallholders.

Francisco Garcia Bruzon, director of the central unit of that entity, told Tiempo21 that his workers carry out numerous innovations in order to guarantee seeders, plows, hydraulic valves and other apparatuses and utensils, needed in the eight municipalities of Las Tunas

Garcia Bruzon explained that the execution of that mission implies a constant search and transformation of spare parts, because there is big shortage of resources, mainly because of the world economic crisis and the US blockade against Cuba.

In order to save fuels, most of the equipments that leave the workshops 13 de Marzo are designed to be pulled by oxen and other animals, reason why they help to diminish imports and to preserve a healthy environment.

According to reports of the maximum authorities in Las Tunas, since last September in this eastern province more than 90, 000 hectares have been given in usufruct, and some of them are already in production.

For Cuba to increase the self-supply of food constitutes a matter of national security, much more because of the anachronic US blockade has caused losses in some 96, 000 million dollars to the Caribbean nation and obstructs the access to the financing sources and the markets.
