Las
Tunas. -
As every
year and
with the
purpose
of
preventing
in Cuba
the
presence
of the
Equine
Encephalomyelitis,
from
tomorrow
and
until
next day
20, the
National
Institute
of
Veterinary
Medicine
(INMV)
will
vaccinate
against
that
viral
illness
to all
the
horses,
donkeys
and
mules of
Las
Tunas
province,
whose
capital
of equal
name is
located
690
kilometers
to the
east of
Havana.
Simultaneously
to that
campaign,
and in
coordination
with the
National
Center
of
Cattle
Control
(CENCOP),
the
|

Keeping
in mind
the
economic,
geographical
and
environmental
conditions
of Cuba,
horses,
mules,
and
donkeys
are
indispensable
in
multiple
works.

Cuba
guides
an
integral
program
for the
recovery
of
horses,
mules
and
donkeys.

|
INMV
will
investigate
the
behavior
of
others
diseases
in the
eight
municipalities
of Las
Tunas,
especially
the
Equine
Infectious
Anemia,
which is
deadly
for
those
animals.
The
simultaneous
development
of those
works
will
allow to
make a
better
use of
the
human
resources
and of
the
means of
diagnostic
available
in each
place,
and it
includes
to all
the
state
and the
private
proprietors.
Santiago
Campos
Gonzalez,
specialist
of the
Veterinary
Medical
Service
in Las
Tunas,
told
Tiempo21
that the
campaign
against
the
Equine
Encephalomyelitis
is
usually
carried
out
during
this
date
because
it is
the
previous
stage to
the
rainy
period,
when the
environmental
conditions
are more
favorable
for the
reappearance
of that
disease
that can
also
affect
the
humans
and
whose
last
appearance
in Cuba
was
verified
by the
middle
of the
previous
century.
According
to the
expert,
as
consequence
of
diverse
factors
and
especially
the
inadequate
handling
of the
horses,
donkeys
and
mules in
the
province
the
amount
of those
animals
has
diminished
considerably
and
there
are not
more
then 29,
000 of
them, a
85
percent
in
private
hands.
Data of
the
National
Office
of
Statistical
assert
that
even
when
from
2002 to
2007
Cuba
increased
these
kinds of
animals
in some
14
percent,
last
year the
country
only had
536, 400
horses,
donkeys
and
mules,
while in
the case
of this
previous
species
there
was a
remarkable
decrease.
With the
result
that the
Ministry
of the
Agriculture
and
other
ministries
are
adopting
measures
for the
recovery
of that
cattle
branch,
and some
achievements
are
already
appreciated,
mainly
in the
genetic
improvement
of the
mule
flock,
administration
in which
the
agricultural
workers
of Villa
Clara
are the
best.
