Young Communist League in Las Tunas Begins Process of Assemblies toward Congress

Las Tunas.- Up to February 28 Las Tunas eastern province is scenario of assemblies by means of which the Young Communist League of Cuba (UJC) renders reports and debates on the quality of its internal work, its protagonism and example in the development of the society, previous to its Ninth Congress next April.

The UJC, in charge of giving political ideological training to the young citizen and main source to the Communist Party of Cuba, has been carrying out since January 9 the process of analysis of its achievements and deficiencies during the last two years in each one of the eight municipalities of the territory, 690 kilometers to the east of Havana.

Each municipal assembly has as objective to evaluate the work of the organization and to develop human values such as honesty, solidarity, responsibility and humanism, in the student and labor centers, where there is the majority of the membership.

Special paragraph deserves in each debate the actions of the young people in the incorporation to the agricultural works, matter that the President of Cuba, Raul Castro Ruz, has denominated as vital for the national security.

The analysis is centered on how to motivate an eminently urban youth, attracted by the comforts in the city, with hundreds of opportunities of academic and cultural traning, toward a job or a professional specialization in the agriculture.

The work of the organization for this period tries to be centered on the creation of work projects that guide to the protagonism of the members of the organization and of all the young people to participate, from their study or labor centers, in the plans of local development that are projected by the administration of the province.

Each one of these assemblies defines the new membership of the municipal secretariat and the delegates of each municipality to the Ninth Congress of the political organization.

On February 28 the Provincial Assembly will be held and a new provincial secretariat of the UJC will be chosen, as well as the names of those who will represent Las Tunas in the national meeting of the organization to take place in Havana during April 3 and 4, this former, the 49 anniversary of the UJC.

The Assemblies of the UJC maintain in their agendas the issues tackled in the open assemblies of the grass root committees or clubs in the province, in which communist militants and non militants could express their complaints and suggestions with regard to the organization and to the role of Cuban young people in the construction of the socialist society.
