Las Tunas.- The sound of
the alarm announced that
the members of the new
victorious caravan were
near to greet the
pedestrians, as it is
already a tradition.
They traveled the main
avenue of this city with
51 children on board two
trucks and a jeep to
recall the passage of
the Rebel Army by Las
Tunas eastern province
when the Revolution
triumphed in 1959.
Children of the primary
and secondary teachings
of the municipality of
Majibacoa, to the east
of this city, began
their homage to the
combatants when they
received the Cuban flag
in a symbolic ceremony.
They carried the
National Symbol to the
entrance of this city,
were they were
substituted by the same
amount of children who
also carried the flag to
the exit of this
provincial capital city.
They made a stopover at
the downtown, at Mati
Square, to express the
historical reasons that
motivated the guerrilla
uprising and the final
triumph that ended with
the passage of the
victorious caravan from
Santiago de Cuba to
Havana, headed by Fidel
Castro and his followers
who fought for a free
Cuba.
A repaired truck, of the
year 1952, was the mean
of transportation used
by the children during
their journey while some
members of the
Association of
Combatants recalled at
the Square those days
when they fought against
the dictatorship of
Fulgencio Bastista to
finally greet the
euphoric population.
Every year, on January 4
a new victorious caravan
passes by Las Tunas,
some 690 kilometers of
Havana, as a symbol of
freedom. A historical
fact that is recalled
all over Cuba with an
interchange of different
generations, the
children and the adults,
combatants of the Rebel
Army of Cuba.
