of

Fruits

Las Tunas.– The
sowing
of some
5, 700
hectares
of
fruit-bearing
trees
from now
to 2015
might
satisfy
the
population
of Las
Tunas
province,
territory
located
690
kilometers
to the
Havan,
where
the
prices
of the
fruits
are as
high a
coconut
tree.
According
to a
strategy
approved
in this
matter,
in 2010
in Las
Tunas
more
than
770, 000
fruit-bearing
trees of
diverse
species
will be
sowed,
mainly
those of
the
quickest
growth
or the
most
resistant
to
meteorological
setbacks.
The
specialists
of the
Forest
State
Service
(SEF)
and the
Ministry
of
Science,
Technology
and
Environment
(CITMA)
in this
eastern
province,
firstly
have
decided
the
sowing
of
varieties
very
rich in
vitamins
(lemon,
orange,
guava,
marañón,
cherry),
as well
as
mango,
tamarind,
avocado,
medlar
and
mammee.
The
program
for the
increment
of the
fruit-bearing
tress in
the
eight
municipalities
of Las
Tunas
during
this
year
contemplates
the
participation
of the
family,
by means
of the
sowing
of 43,
000 |

The
avocado
is the
favorite
salad
for the
Cubans.
Thanks
to the
Biotechnology,
in Las
Tunas
and the
other
provinces
there
are
varieties
of quick
growth
and of
high
productivity.

Plantation
of
mammee
in full
development.
The
empty
spaces
could be
used to
insert
cultivations
that,
like the
bean,
favor
the
alimentary
sovereignty
of the
nation
and
favor
nitrogen
and
other
nutrients
to the
soils.

postures
in
patios
and
community
areas,
although
the
integral
strategy
conceives
farms as
the
basic
units
that can
achieve
the best
results.
The
Ministry
of
Agriculture
and the
National
Association
of Small
Farmers
promote
the
creation
of farms
as ideal
spaces
to
develop
together
with the
fruit-bearing
trees
the
cultivations
of bean,
pumpkin,
cucumber,
melon
and
others,
to make
the best
use of
the
lands,
the
water
and the
available
fertilizers.
The
success
of the
mentioned
strategy
can
influence
the
system
of
suburban
agriculture
that
begins
to be
fomented
around
Las
Tunas
city and
other
important
cities
of Cuba
to
prioritize
the
sowing
of
fruit-bearing
trees.
It would
be good
that in
some few
years
the
quantity
and
variety
of
fruits
in the
markets
can be a
really
for all
the
inhabitants
of Las
Tunas
and of
all
Cuba,
since
the high
prices
make
them to
be
forbidden
fruits.
It would
also be
an
invaluable
contribution
to the
substitution
of
imports
and the
alimentary
invulnerability
of the
country.
