Case of Cuban Five,
Exposed in Australia’s
University
October
30,
2009, 10:59 am
Las Tunas, (Main
Writing
Tiempo21).-
The presentation
of the case of
the Cuban Five,
unjustly
incarcerated in
the United
States, was
carried out at
Sydney’s
Macquarie
University,
sponsored by the
United Nations
Association of
Australia (UNAA). |
|
A wore from the
Cuban News
Agency (ACN)
highlights that
Doctor Gill
Boehringer,
professor,
lawyer, and
former Dean of
the
forementioned
university’s
Faculty of Law,
and Joanne
Kuniansky,
member of the
Free the Five
Committee in the
Australian
capital, were
the main
speakers.
Boehringer
focused on the
process and its
legal flimsiness,
the violations
of the due
process of the
law, and the
illegality of
the sentences
given to Gerardo
Hernandez, Ramon
Labanino,
Antonio
Guerrero,
Fernando
Gonzalez and
Rene Gonzalez.
For her part,
Kuniansky
tackled the
human and
political
aspects of the
trial and the
double standard
of the US
government,
which has tried
and condemned
these innocent
Cubans for the
sole fact of
defending their
homeland from
terrorist
actions planned
in US territory.
The two
lecturers
emphasized that
the case of the
Cuban Five is
rather a
political trial
rather than a
legal case, in
which the US
government has
shown its hatred
and
aggressiveness
toward the Cuban
people, the
Cuban Foreign
Ministry’s web
site reports.
The audience at
this center of
high studies,
which has some
32,000 students,
was mainly made
up by students
from the
faculties of
Humanities and
Law, who showed
their interest
in the case and
requested
explanations in
order to deepen
into the
knowledge of
this case.
