expression and the
improvement of the
democracy in Cuba.
In these
assemblies some of the
most attreactive facts
are the purity of the
ideas, which almost
always defend fair
causes, the awakening of
utopias, the idealistic
supports, and the direct
curiosity that points
out conflicts, very
linked to the student
life.
But an
aspect to be reproached
is the harmful attitude
assumed by some teachers
and even students who do
not allow the free
thought, the criticism
and the debate.
Those
people brake arguments,
simplify their
importance with evasive
and negative answers.
They deviate the
analyses to ordinary
topics that bore the
students even when their
complaints are somehow
idealistic.
It is
not a problem of these
times. I remember that
when I was a senior high
student, my passionate
arguments for causes I
considered fair found,
in occasions, the
dictation of thoughtless
people.
In
order to avoid criticism
I was more reserved in
my opinions, quietter in
the Assemblies that
continue in the
University and in my job
and I wondered if it was
necessary to talk or not.
And this way I have
surprised myself today,
silencing my utopias,
sometimes due to the
unique ghost of
renovating an old
criticism.
Nobody
can develop the oral
expression silencing
arguments, lifting walls,
or giving frustrating
repairs to the self-esteem.
It is healthier to
encourage in the
adolescents the
enunciation of solutions
to their complaints.
They
will understand the
decisions and the
negatives better, when
in the search of answers,
they find the causes,
debate on them, and
attempt to transform
their reality.
Then
those adolescents who
try to understand, to
solve and to project
ideas will be more
prepared for the future.
They will be ready to
improve their society.
The
Cuban youth cannot be
passive. It must fight
against what it is wrong
and express themselves
in those opportunities
they have.
During
the adolescence the
assemblies in the
classrooms have the
youth's shades: unruly,
idealistic, main
character. The students
munst be guided but
thier ideas must be
heard. Teachers, parents,
juvenile leaders must be
guides and never
voluntary walls to
hamper matters that
don't seem to have any
solution. Perhaps, an
impetuous adolescent can
show the right way to
solve a problem.
