Las Tunas -. When Luis Figueredo
Toranzo was an adult he realized
he didn't have too much vocation
for the study, so he didn't want
to continue in a classroom for
more time and after he fished
his twelfth grade he began to
work.
The big dilemma was that of "how
to do, to do nothing", something
that was not approved by his
mother and his sister, not only
because “they don’t accept lazy
people at home" but because the
domestic economy didn't allow
them to feed a mouth that didn't
produce anything, with all the
possibilities to work and to
study that there are in this
country for healthy people.
In front of this alternative and
after several ideas his
salvation boat appears amid so
much trash in his head: "to
work, at least to start up with
something, the campaign against
the mosquitoes is a choice".
This campaign, created to fight
mainly the mosquito Aedes
Aegypti, maintains active an
important labor force of men and
women who visit each house and
labor centers, looking for
breeding ground of vectors,
facilitating their elimination
and educating the population.
Undoubtedly, at the beginning it
was not tempting, but what
seemed to be “the worst card of
the game" has become, with the
perseverance and the practice, a
good way to work in favor of
health of the people, and until
to improve knowledge.
Now Luis is receiving a language
course on Saturdays, does his
work in the dame neighborhood
and knows better the
characteristics of each house
and the aspects in which he must
make emphasis; he works with
several young people like him
that value his task “he is the
best worker we have” they
assert.
His patience and perseverance
together with that of his 38
coworkers have favored a change
in the behavior of this silent
man of fragile figure who now
has responsibility and certain
dose of pride for the work he
does.
It is true the sun bothers many
times during his work on foot
house by house and that he
doesn't seek to recommend to
abandon the studies, but he
thanks the possibility of being
part of something useful for the
society and he is proud of being
born in a country that offers an
opportunity to everybody.
