Las Tunas.- The binomial physician and nurse in each district is for most of the Cubans a perfect duet that always knows what it is happening in each family, many times, beyond the proper medical diseases.

Primary health assistance in Las Tunas consolidates with the preventive work in the communities.
I say this because they are the root of the primary health assistance in the Caribbean island and they are the center of attention of the community due to the daily responsibility they have to offer their free services to the neighbors.

Physicians and nurses not only consult their patients at their offices but they also go to the houses of old people, pregnant women and babies to know if they have any health problem.

They belong to the 16 policlinics of Las Tunas eastern province and depending on the complexities of the town they assist, they can be classify as type 1, with a nurse, and those of type 2 who work 24 hours a day and offer their services in remote areas.

The results in the prevention of illnesses with which they say goodbye to the 2009 speak by themselves to demonstrate their outstanding work along this territory, 690 kilometers to the East of Havana.

They dedicate time to visit each newborn and give advice to the adult the population on how to avoid some diseases to protect the whole family.

But they also have dissatisfaction such as the repair of their offices and the shortage of materials to make a better work. Anyway they always offer their services with a big satisfaction. No matter if they have to travel to a patient’s house on foot.

The primary health assistance in Cuba is a reality that has consolidated in the 50 years of Revolution and that now faces significant changes to offer its most important services at the communities; however, the personnel's value continue being an unquestionable merit of daily sacrifice, the best incentives to achieve good results in the public health.
