Las Tunas.- The
title La pupila
insomne (The
Sleepless
Pupil), literary
work by Ruben
Martinez Villena
(1899-1934),
will be launched
in the
University Book
and Reading
Festival that is
running up to
November 17 in
all the
universities of
the Las Tunas
eastern
province.
With a
comprehensive
foreword by his
friend Raul Roa,
this text is
introduced by
who lived the
historical and
literary events
of Ruben
Martinez Villena,
who defended the
ideas of Jose
Marti.
Villena's poetry
is classified as
one of best
predecessor
inside the
social prose of
the generation
of the 26 of
Julio Movement,
without scorning
his love
literary work.
This book
includes the
poem “Canción
del sainete
póstumo” (Song
of the
Posthumous
Sketch), which
he called it his
Niagarita
(little Niagara
Falls), due to
its popularity,
“El gigante”
(The Giant),
“Paz callada”
(Quiet Peace),
among others up
to forty
poetries.
In this
selection the
reader can also
find Villena's
love poem
“Hexaedro rosa”
(Pink
Hexahedron),
written in
prose, divided
in six parts,
example of his
love poetry, out
of all moral
prejudice and
evocation of
love to the
beloved wife.
It is also
included
“Mensaje lírico
civil” (Civil
Lyrical
Message), rebel
song, to exalt
freedom among
the people by
means of
rhetorical
questions,
images, and
similes.
In this occasion
the University
Book and Reading
Festival pays
homage to the
110 birthday
anniversary of
Ruben Martinez
Villena, writer
who directed the
general strike
that caused the
fall of the
tyrant Gerardo
Machado in 1931.
Villena’s poetry
work was
published
posthumously.
