Las Tunas.- The title La pupila insomne (The Sleepless Pupil), literary work by Ruben Martinez Villena (1899-1934), will be launched in the University Book and Reading Festival that is running up to November 17 in all the universities of the Las Tunas eastern province.

With a comprehensive foreword by his friend Raul Roa, this text is introduced by who lived the historical and literary events of Ruben Martinez Villena, who defended the ideas of Jose Marti.

Villena's poetry is classified as one of best predecessor inside the social prose of the generation of the 26 of Julio Movement, without scorning his love literary work.

This book includes the poem “Canción del sainete póstumo” (Song of the Posthumous Sketch), which he called it his Niagarita (little Niagara Falls), due to its popularity, “El gigante” (The Giant), “Paz callada” (Quiet Peace), among others up to forty poetries.

In this selection the reader can also find Villena's love poem “Hexaedro rosa” (Pink Hexahedron), written in prose, divided in six parts, example of his love poetry, out of all moral prejudice and evocation of love to the beloved wife.

It is also included “Mensaje lírico civil” (Civil Lyrical Message), rebel song, to exalt freedom among the people by means of rhetorical questions, images, and similes.

In this occasion the University Book and Reading Festival pays homage to the 110 birthday anniversary of Ruben Martinez Villena, writer who directed the general strike that caused the fall of the tyrant Gerardo Machado in 1931.

Villena’s poetry work was published posthumously.
