The
Cuban government, fully responsible of its responsibility with the
people, has put the state reservations to disposition of a big number of
inhabitants, damaged by the scourge of the hurricanes Gustav and Ike,
which affected seriusly the individual and collective patrimony in all
the provinces with an interval of only eight days.
But
like the National Hero of Cuba, Jose Marti, said: “The men are in two
sides: those who love and found, those who hate and undo" .1 And some
unscrupulous individuals, taking advantage of the necessities, try to
hoard and to resell foods and other products, which worsens the
situation of people, especially that of less economic revenues.
For
such a reason, there is a widespread back of the citizenship in the
province of Las Tunas to the measures adopted by the National
Revolutionary Police, the Prosecution and the tribunals that sanction
-based on the Constitution of the Republic and other laws - with strong
hand to the opportunists.
“It
is an example that the State never abandons us neither material nor
morally, and the illegal acts reinforce the unity of our people in front
of any adversity, if they come from natural disasters or from the
systematic terrorism of the US government against Cuba” stated Graciela
Romero, who lives in La Victoria neighbourhood, in this capital city,
690 kilometers to the east of Havana.
On
this matter, Luz Marina Hernandez Sosa, president of the Provincial
People's Tribunal, aserted that the law is being applied quickly and
with severity as it is established by the Penal Law whose items 53 and
54 allow to increase the limits of the sanctions under exceptional
circumstances, like those conditioned by the two powerful hurricanes.
According to the jurist, the rapid answer of the organs in charge of
applying justice doesn't imply damage of the legality, because all the
procedural guarantees are respected, such as the right of the accused to
name a defender or to obtain one with the state funds, and to appeal the
cassation, if it is necessary.
At
the moment the most frequently crimes in the eight municipalities of Las
Tunas are theft of electric cables, speculation and hoarding,
appropriations and undue use of resources, and illicit economic
activity.
Although the facts are not so widespread and serious to affect the
normal process of recovery from the damages, caused to the neighbors and
governmental institutions, those actions irritate the Cubans, educated
by the Revolution in human values such as solidarity, sacrifice spirit,
patriotism, honesty and love to the family, and for such a reason the
citizenship reject the illegal acts.
