Las Tunas.- Workers of various governmental agencies began to repair the rail road between the capital of the southern municipality of Amancio and the port of Guayabal, located about 100 kilometers west of this city and more than 600 to the east of Havana, dock by which Cuba exports sugar, alcohols and other derivatives of the sugarcane.
The repair of that route is in charge of brigades of dock workers, soldiers and employees of the sugar industry, who undertook to complete the work before |

August
13, to
celebrate
the 84
birthday
of Fidel
Castro,
maximum
Cuban
Revolution
leader.
The work
includes
replacing
rails,
sleepers
and
other
items,
the
laying
of
gravel
or
ballast,
cleaning
and
reforestation
of both
sides of
the
railway
stretch,
which
reaches
about 20
kilometers
long.
Besides
the
importance
for the
country's
economy,
the work
will
have a
positive
impact
on the
lives of
the
inhabitants
of
Guayabal,
who with
the help
of
government
have
recovered
in a
short
time
from the
disastrous
consequences
of
Hurricane
Paloma,
which in
November
2008
destroyed
many
homes
and
other
buildings,
but
there
was no
death,
thanks
to the
speed
with
which
the
Cuban
authorities
always
act in
such
cases.
The
repair
of the
rail
road
Amancio-Guayabal
is part
of a
broader
program
implemented
by Cuba
to
rehabilitate
its
railway,
because
the
trains
are the
fundamental
means of
transport
for the
country's
development,
not only
for
their
capacity
to move
cargo
and
passengers,
but for
their
potential
to
substitute
import
and
their
constant
rise in
economic
efficiency,
as well.
