There are communities where the teacher is an authority. He is consulted for the taking of decisions and is a paradigm for everybody. This is not a utopia. It is achieved by means of a good behavior, ethics and responsibility.

The loss of exemplary behavior and the not very attractive place where he has to work constitute some of the reasons why this career doesn’t motivate the future professionals and as result there is lack of teachers in all Cuba.

Up to now the Ministry of Education has not been able to cover its necessity of professionals and the figures of young people in the pedagogical universities will not solve it in a short term.

To analyze that panorama would be necessary to know the reasons each student has to request a career, to obtain it and then not to assume it, because in some of cases they are pressed by the family so that they make another choice.

The exact sciences are one most affected specialties by the lack of professionals and to make matter worse, few people register in them. On the contrary those of Foreign Languages are a little more attractive for many students. Furthermore, the national tendency is a preference to the subject of Humanities

Once in the road

When the students arrive at the Pedagogical University, the retention in the institution not always behaves as it is expected. The number of graduates is very far away from the initial quantity registered students at the beginning of the careers.

At present the Pedagogic University of Las Tunas eastern province is creating a website to help in the professional training of the students. Each faculty also selected experienced and noted professors to offer conferences that help the vocation for the pedagogy.

All the schools count on the book entitled What Am I Going to Study? Moreover, the scientific researches related with these topics are also generalized among the students.

All these actions are guided to offer a wide knowledge on the different careers, sot that the pedagogy doen't continue being the black sheep in the students’ applications.

These ideas are not enough, mainly because the Ministry of Education cannot carry all the responsibility. The family and community help is also very important.
