 Las Tunas Intensifies Control of Vectors

Las Tunas-. Several times this media outlet has acknowledged the work held in the eastern province of Las Tunas in order to eradicate the mosquito Aedes aegypti, transmitter agent of the dengue fever and other diseases; however, the summer, with its activities, rains and hot temperatures makes necessary to focus again on this particular topic, especially in the work of those who fight this scourge.In Las Tunas, as throughout Cuba the surveillance is a multisectoral task, involving the health authorities as well as organizations whose management is central in certain conditions, among them are the water and sewerage company and the mass organizations in each lneighborhood or community.
Moreover, the provincial laboratory of entomology is also engaged in other equally valid actions and intensifies the constant vigilance to detect some possible outbreaks of the vector.
During these sessions the laboratory carries out studies in mosquitoes collected in their natural habitats, mostly in lakes, rivers and ravines near housing and human populations, as well as keeps informed the health authorities in the province about the areas where the presence of these agents is encreasing to control the focus.
Entomology, the science that studies the insects, is an important branch of zoology whose investigations are becoming more prominent role in the world, especially because it focuses on the analysis of these animals that are more than two thirds of all known on the planet.
