Las Tunas.- If the Provincial Director of Infirmary in the eastern province of Las Tunas, Maritza Martinez, could come to this world again in another future age, she would be a nurse, a profession she loves a lot for being the true soul of the Cuban medicine.

To support her words, she stressed they are majority inside their field, arriving at figure of 5, 310 professionals in the whole province, to some 690 to the east of Havana.

She also spoke of the responsibility they have when they remain 24 hours of each day beside the bed of the patients "while the doctor just gives the instructions and goes home, a nurse have to fulfill the smallest details."

With an enormous smile and the nerves characteristic of who faces a recorder for the first time Maritza Martinez spoke of their exchanges, of their work with the elder adult and with the children, of the hours they have to stay awake and of shoes that last very little, "because we walk a lot and of course we get tire."

The times of midwives and of a profession that was exclusively for women already passed. At present there are also men in this specialty, although we are majority, but that doesn't mean that the men’s work is stronger.

In fact, we all are a strong bond to make truth the fight for the life in the centers of health of Las Tunas and of all Cuba, because although behind an outstanding man there is an excellent woman; behind a talented doctor there is always a clever nurse.
