Las Tunas Celebrates
World Poetry Day

Tiempo21).–
The World Day Poetry,
celebrated across Cuba
this March 21, was a
moment to debate on the
evolution and
development of the
ten-line stanza, as one
of the most popular
verses in the Caribbean
island.
Starting
from the work of Juan
Cristobal Napoles
Fajardo, El Cucalambe,
the most famous bucolic
poet in Cuba, the poets
of the province
exchanged ideas on the
development of this
rural poetry and the
national style imposed
to the verse by the
Cucalambe.
The
participants in the
encounter also analyzed
the patterns used by the
poets of Las Tunas
Renael Gonzalez, Nuvia
Estevez, Juan Manuel
Herrera, Carlos Tellez
Espino, Carlos Esquivel
and Alberto Garrido.
The World
Poetry Day is on March
21 and was declared in
November 1999 by the
UNESCO. The purpose of
the day is to promote
the reading, writing,
publishing and teaching
of poetry throughout the
world.
